Goldman Sachs is offering its flagship Financial Square Treasury Instruments Fund to institutional crypto firms through the Lynq settlement network — without wrapping the shares as tokens, a quieter path than the tokenized money-market products Wall Street has been selling.
The fund, ticker FTIXX, holds about $100 billion, with assets near $105 billion in late August. Lynq, which runs on a permissioned Avalanche layer-1 chain, will distribute Institutional Shares through SEC-registered broker-dealer tZERO Securities. It is the first outside fund on the network, which previously had a single investment product. Clients include B2C2, Wintermute, Galaxy, FalconX, Crypto.com, and Fireblocks. They can park cash in FTIXX between trades, earn yield, and pull it when they need to deploy. Access is restricted to eligible U.S. clients who onboard with tZERO and pass the usual checks. Lynq said it had to modify its stack and integrate with Mosaic to make the fund work.
That design is the point. BlackRock built BUIDL as a tokenized fund. Franklin Templeton's BENJI tokenizes money-market shares. Goldman left FTIXX as a conventional Treasury fund and used Lynq as a distribution pipe. Lynq chief executive Jerald David called it a convergence between traditional and digital-asset market participants. The network lists more than 30 institutional firms and more than $89 million in assets — a rounding error next to FTIXX, which is the tell. The fund does not need Lynq's balance sheet. Lynq needed a Treasury yield product its clients had been asking for.
The second-order argument in crypto has been that real-world assets have to live on-chain to count. Goldman's answer is that the cash between bitcoin trades does not. A $100 billion fund arriving as a share class, not a token, is a distribution story, not a blockchain story. If the model spreads, tokenization was never the bottleneck. Onboarding, broker-dealer rails, and a place to sweep idle dollars were. That is less exciting than a mint. It is how cash actually moves when a market maker has to wait for the next ticket.
