Strong results from Salesforce and Okta are giving investors a reason to believe that software and internet infrastructure can deliver durable growth even if the AI narrative cools.
Both companies beat expectations, with Salesforce in particular demonstrating that enterprise software spending is still expanding despite caution from some large customers about macro conditions. Okta's results reinforced the view that identity and access management remain essential infrastructure, regardless of which AI platforms win the larger platform war.
The rally carries a subtle but important message. For much of 2026, technology leadership has been concentrated in AI-centric names, especially semiconductor and model-building companies. The broader software sector lagged at times, with investors worrying that tight budgets and rising discount rates would squeeze subscription renewals and cloud commitments. Thursday's reaction suggested those concerns may be overstated.
Rotation out of pure AI momentum trades and into more balanced technology exposure is a familiar market pattern. It does not signal the end of the infrastructure buildout, but it does indicate that investors are beginning to distinguish between companies merely tagging themselves as AI beneficiaries and those with visible, recurring revenue streams.
Treasury yields and inflation expectations still matter. If borrowing costs continue to rise, even strong software operators could face slower decision-making from enterprise buyers. For now, though, the results from Salesforce and Okta offer evidence that technology demand is broader than one narrow slice of the market.
