A record crypto rally has run into a stubborn wall: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs are still seeing net outflows even as Bitcoin approaches the $78,000 level.

Bitcoin has staged one of its strongest weekly rallies in recent years, climbing roughly 23% and briefly challenging the $80,000 mark. Ethereum and large-cap altcoins joined the advance, but exchange-traded products tied to Bitcoin in the U.S. continued to see net withdrawals, highlighting a divide between retail momentum and institutional positioning.

Investors are parsing whether the outflows reflect profit-taking after a sharp rebound, valuation caution, or a wait-and-see approach to regulatory catalysts. One potential explanation is that institutional buyers are using alternatives such as private trusts or OTC desks rather than listed ETFs, even as ETF structures continue to draw attention from lawmakers.

With crypto market capitalization approaching $2.7 trillion and volatility elevated, analysts say the next decisive test is whether ETF flows flip positive again. A durable recovery in net inflows would signal that institutions are treating the rebound as a trend rather than a trade.
