Mesh and Visa are partnering to make crypto and stablecoin balances spendable at more than 175 million merchant locations worldwide, letting users pay directly from their existing wallet apps without a separate card or a cash-out step.

Under the arrangement, wallet holders will be able to route stablecoin balances through Visa's payment rails at the point of sale, with the network converting the asset to fiat at settlement. The model removes the friction that has long kept digital assets out of everyday commerce: no need to off-ramp to a bank account, no separate debit card, and no waiting for a transfer to clear.

For the stablecoin industry, the deal is a milestone in moving from a speculative asset class to a real payments medium. Issuers have struggled to demonstrate utility beyond trading and treasury management, and merchant acceptance has been the missing link. Visa's global footprint instantly gives stablecoin holders a reason to hold the asset for spending rather than speculation.

The partnership also signals how mainstream payments firms plan to coexist with crypto rather than resist it. By wrapping the digital asset in an existing, regulated rail, Visa keeps the settlement risk on its own balance sheet while extending the reach of its network. The practical test will be whether consumers actually use the feature once it ships.
