Zcash's Record 2.4 Million Vote Backed the NU7 Halving by 106 to 1. The Price Reaction Says the Market Is Still Unsure.

The largest coinholder vote in Zcash history approved the NU7 upgrade — a block-time reduction from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, effectively tripling the issuance rate — with a 106-to-1 margin on 2.4 million tokens. The vote is a governance signal. The market's next move will test whether that signal is backed by demand.

Zcash has reclaimed its place in the top 10 by market capitalization this week, trading in the $1,200 range and up roughly 15 percent on the week. The NU7 upgrade changes the chain's economic parameters and its finality properties in a single release. The 106-to-1 vote is not just a formality: it tells the market that the largest holders see the upgrade as worth the inflation change. Grayscale's Zcash ETF, ZCSH, held more than 560,000 ZEC and $686 million in assets as of October 23, with renewed inflows on the week. That institutional presence, combined with a price that has outperformed the broader crypto market, is the structural shift the vote is validating: Zcash is no longer a privacy niche. It is a top-10 chain with a product roadmap and an institutional wrapper.

The risk is that the vote's unanimitas was a rubber stamp. The 106-to-1 margin means almost no one voted against the upgrade — which is good for consensus, but it also means the real debate was not on the ballot. The market will decide whether the 25-second block time is a feature worth paying for, or a tax on holders watching their coins dilute three times faster. The answer will be visible in the first two weeks of post-upgrade issuance data.
