Bitcoin Holds $80,000 Into the Fed. The Outflows Are the Number to Watch

Bitcoin is hovering around $80,000 after dipping below the level, with Ethereum near $2,300 and Solana around $100. The spot Bitcoin ETFs have bled hundreds of millions of dollars in net outflows over the past two days, and the sentiment is one-word: cautious. The number that matters more than the price is the outflow tape.

Galaxy Research argues the bear market ended in June and that the current range is a consolidation, not a bottom. The counter-argument from Moody's is that a crypto crash sits among the more likely economic risks over the next 12 to 18 months, with limited broader fallout if it happens. Both are defensible, and both are wrong if the Fed's statement comes down hawkish on the third hike. The ETF outflows are the tell: institutional money that has been rotating into the asset all year is now taking some off the table ahead of a rate decision. That is not panic. It is position management. The market is not leaving. It is sitting on its hands.

For the next two weeks, the tape will be read off the outflows, not the price. A hold in the ETFs after Wednesday's decision would confirm that the institutions are waiting for a lower entry. A reversal back into inflows would mean the market is pricing a Fed that is done. Either way, the $80,000 level is not the story. The flow is.
