Anthropic opened the Claude Marketplace with more than 2,000 plugins and connectors, then, two days later, a submission portal for developers — a move that recasts Claude from a model you query into a catalog you buy through.
The hub, live at claude.com/marketplace, bundles Model Context Protocol connectors and Agent Skills from Atlassian, Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Microsoft 365, Notion, and Salesforce. Enterprises can apply existing Anthropic committed spend toward Claude-powered products from CrowdStrike, Cursor, Harvey, Legora, Lovable, and Snowflake. Consulting partners include Accenture, Boston Consulting Group, and Deloitte. Developer submissions, opened September 25 for paid plans, go through validation and safety scans before listing.
The marketplace is not a feature drop. It is a distribution strategy. Once a company's Anthropic contract can be spent on third-party agents, switching costs move from model quality to procurement plumbing. OpenAI has been building an app-and-agent storefront around ChatGPT. Anthropic is answering with the thing CFOs actually sign: committed spend that can be allocated inside the same vendor relationship. The winner is not the best demo. It is the desk that already has budget attached.
The second-order effect is on who gets to sell into the enterprise AI stack. Independent toolmakers now have a reason to build on MCP and ship through Anthropic's review process rather than selling seat by seat. That concentrates discovery — and safety review — in one company's catalog. If the marketplace works, Claude becomes less a chatbot and more a checkout lane for the rest of the agent economy.
