The White House is hosting a high-level meeting with executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Kraken, Robinhood, and other major crypto firms on August 19, as the Trump administration signals renewed engagement with digital asset policy ahead of key regulatory decisions.
Attendees also include representatives from prediction market platform Polymarket, sports betting exchange Kalshi, venture firms Andreessen Horowitz and Paradigm, and traditional exchange operators NYSE and Nasdaq. The breadth of participants suggests the administration is taking a comprehensive view of digital assets that extends beyond cryptocurrencies to encompass prediction markets and tokenized securities.
The meeting comes at a pivotal moment for U.S. crypto regulation. The Securities and Exchange Commission has been gradually clarifying its approach to digital assets, while the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is set to hold advisory sessions on prediction markets. The GENIUS Act, which created a federal framework for payment stablecoins, is approaching its one-year anniversary with rulemaking still incomplete.
For the industry, the White House summit represents both an opportunity and a risk. On one hand, direct engagement with senior administration officials could accelerate the development of clear regulatory guidelines that have been elusive for years. On the other, any policy framework that emerges from these discussions could include provisions that industry participants find burdensome or restrictive.
The inclusion of traditional financial institutions alongside crypto-native companies suggests the administration recognizes that the boundary between conventional finance and digital assets is increasingly blurred, and that any regulatory approach must account for both ecosystems.
