Bitcoin stabilized near $78,000 after surging roughly 24% in a single week, its best performance since 2023, as traders assessed whether the rebound can hold or whether it will become another fleeting rally in a volatile year.
The cryptocurrency's climb was fueled by a mix of macro and market-specific catalysts. A doubling of U.S. Treasury long-dated bond buybacks helped spark a short squeeze that wiped out more than $3 billion in bearish bets, while spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs recorded strong inflows. Regulatory optimism, including expectations around the CLARITY Act, added to the bullish tone, as did a weaker dollar and rising Treasury yields that made non-sovereign stores of value more attractive to some investors.
Ethereum outperformed during the move, gaining roughly 31% for the week and pushing the ETH/BTC ratio to its highest level since April. XRP also surged more than 50%, underscoring how the rally was not confined to Bitcoin but instead swept across large-cap and previously lagging tokens. At the same time, open interest declined, suggesting that much of the move was driven by spot buying rather than leveraged momentum.
Despite the strength, traders remain cautious. Bitcoin has already tested resistance near $79,500, and some analysts warn that the market could give back部分 gains if upcoming economic data or Fed commentary disappoints. The week ahead includes PCE inflation, revised Q2 GDP, and Jackson Hole remarks from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, any of which could reset risk appetite quickly.
For now, the market is treating the rally as a potentially durable shift rather than a short squeeze alone. Whether that view holds depends largely on whether ETF inflows continue and whether regulatory progress in Washington matches the optimism already priced into crypto markets.
