Robinhood Chain, a new Layer 2 network built on Ethereum's Arbitrum technology stack, has gone live with tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds, surpassing $1 billion in decentralized exchange trading volume within days of launch and signaling a new phase in the convergence of traditional finance and blockchain infrastructure.

The platform allows users to trade tokenized versions of U.S. equities and ETFs on-chain, with settlements executed on the Ethereum base layer through Robinhood's custom rollup. The launch represents one of the most ambitious attempts to date to bridge conventional capital markets with decentralized infrastructure, and early volume suggests that demand for on-chain exposure to traditional assets may be stronger than skeptics had assumed.

Robinhood's move into Layer 2 infrastructure comes as the broader Ethereum ecosystem is undergoing significant technical upgrades. The Fusaka upgrade, which went live earlier this month, introduced PeerDAS data availability for rollups and raised the validator balance cap to 2,048 ETH, changes that are designed to reduce fees and improve the economics of Layer 2 networks like Robinhood Chain.

The launch also underscores Ethereum's dominance in the tokenization of real-world assets. The network currently holds approximately 52.5% market share in tokenized RWA value, having added $7.2 billion over the past year. Morgan Stanley Investment Management launched an Ethereum Staking exchange-traded product this month, and multiple privacy protocols have gone live on Base, Coinbase's own Layer 2 network.

Institutional adoption is accelerating in parallel. South Korea's KB Kookmin Bank announced this month that it would adopt JPMorgan's Kinexys blockchain for cross-border payments, while POSCO and LG CNS began tokenizing real trade receivables on Injective. Circle, the issuer of USDC, acquired approximately 1,000 IBM blockchain patents, a move that strengthens its intellectual property position in the enterprise tokenization space.

Not all developments in the ecosystem have been positive. The Ethereum Foundation eliminated 54 positions, roughly 20% of its workforce, as part of a restructuring amid leadership turnover. And the cryptocurrency market remains range-bound, with Bitcoin trading near $63,000 and Ethereum near $1,850, as investors await regulatory clarity from the pending CLARITY Act and the Federal Reserve's July policy decision.

For Robinhood, the stakes are high. The company has built its brand on democratizing access to financial markets, and the Layer 2 launch represents a bet that the next generation of market infrastructure will run on public blockchains rather than traditional clearinghouses. Whether that bet pays off will depend on regulatory acceptance, technical reliability, and whether retail and institutional users continue to migrate on-chain at the pace the company is betting on.
